How do you get to Madrid Airport?

Getting to and from Madrid Airport is easy and convenient, taking just 20-30 minutes from the city center by car or public transport. 

All trains to the airport connect to T4, while the bus and metro serve all terminals. If you arrive at T4 but need T1, T2, or T3, use the free, 24-hour green shuttle bus to reach your terminal.

Metro Line 8: The easiest and most affordable way to reach the airport from the city center is by taking the Metro from Nuevos Ministerios station directly to the airport (terminals T1-T4). Getting to Madrid Airport by train

Lines C1/C10: To reach Madrid Airport by train, you will need to take the Cercanías commuter train. Both Lines C1 and C10 travel from major stations like Atocha and Chamartín directly to Terminal 4. The train costs approx. €3 and takes 25-30 minutes.

Getting to Madrid Airport by bus

Exprés Aeropuerto: The Exprés Aeropuerto airport bus runs 24/7 from Atocha (during the day) and Cibeles (at night) to all Madrid’s airport terminals. The ride takes 40 minutes and costs about €5.

Getting to Madrid Airport by car

If you want to drive to Madrid–Barajas Airport, take the M-30 ring road and connect to the A-2 (Autovía de Barcelona), then follow signs for “Aeropuerto / M-14.” Alternatively, you can use the M-40 or M-11 for more direct access to the airport.

Madrid Airport has a number of parking facilities across all of its terminals located in the buildings of T1, T2/T3, and T4. 

Parking at Terminal 1

P1: Located 2 minutes walk from Terminal 1, the P1 car park is ideal for short stays or passenger drop-offs. The car park has 2,200 parking spaces and is wheelchair accessible. Open 24 hours.

Parking at Terminal 2 & 3

P2: This is the primary car park for both Terminal 2 and Terminal 3. Located across two buildings with 7 floors, and only takes a couple of minutes to get to T2 or T3. This is also good for short stays and drop-offs, with covered spaces and 24/7 access.

Express Parking: Terminal 1, 2, and 3 at Madrid Airport offer Express Parking directly in front of the airport terminals for quick stays and dropoffs, with the first 10 minutes free.

Parking at Terminal 4

P4: P4 is the largest official airport car park at MAD, located directly next to Terminal 4. This is also good for short stays and dropoffs, with covered spaces and 24/7 access. 

Priority Parking: P4 also offers a priority car park with quicker, direct access to the T4 terminal at Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport. It is located in modules C and D.

Long-Stay Parking

Terminals 1, 2, and 3: The long-stay option is located on Av. de Logroño. It’s 15 minutes from the airport terminals, so you will need to take the free shuttle to Terminal 1, 2, or 3. The shuttle runs every 20 minutes. From 1:00 AM to 6:00 AM the shuttle runs on demand.

Terminal 4: The long-stay car park at Terminal 4 is located further up Av. de Logroño, just above the T4 building. A shuttle runs every 20 minutes. From 1:00 AM to 6:00 AM the shuttle runs on demand.

Low-Cost Parking

Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport offers a low-cost parking option which must be booked in advance and must be for a minimum of 5 days. 

Terminal 1, 2, 3: Located a few minutes from the terminals off the M-11 and connected by a free transit bus service from the car park (3 minutes to T1, 5 minutes to T2 and T3).

VIP Parking

VIP parking is offered at all Madrid Airport terminals. The VIP area offers convenience and security just metres from the arrivals area. 

Madrid Airport: Terminal Overview

Madrid Airport has 4 main terminals: T1, T2, T3, and T4. The airport also has a satellite terminal located 2 kilometers from T4 called T4S. 

Terminals 1-3 act like a group, connected airside by walkways where passengers can easily move between them on foot. There’s no need to clear customs or immigration when connecting within these three.

Terminal 1 handles a mix of both international and Schengen flights, including many long-haul airlines and some low-cost carriers. It is one of the original terminals.

Terminal 2 is mainly used for domestic and Schengen area regional flights by several European airlines. Terminal 3 is connected to T2 and is a smaller branch within the same complex. T3 is mainly used for regional or overflow flights when needed. 

Terminal 4 is Madrid Airport’s newest and largest terminal, located roughly 6 kilometers from Terminal 1-3. It was built in 2006 and is best known for its award-winning “wave” roof design. Terminal 4 handles a fair amount of Madrid’s airport traffic including many international and long-haul services. It’s also home to Iberia and is where oneworld alliance flights depart from.

T4S is Terminal 4’s satellite terminal, and is only reachable via the automatic train/subway (APM) from Terminal 4 after passing through security. It has additional departure gates and is mostly used for non-Schengen international departures.
