2026 Guide to Tampa International Airport (TPA)

Updated: April 22, 2026

As one of Central Florida’s major hubs, Tampa International Airport (TPA) welcomes 25 million passengers annually. The airport is also a pioneer of modern airport design, being the first in the world to use an airside/landside concept. This was introduced in Tampa Airport 1971 and is now used as the airport standard to separate the compact central hub (landside) and the satellite buildings (airside) just for gates.

During spring break, Tampa International becomes one of the busiest airports in Florida, where it’s known to welcome well over 80,000 passengers daily, so it’s good to know how to navigate the airport before you visit.

Whether you’re passing through on a layover, business, or pleasure, this guide to Tampa International Airport will help you navigate the parking, terminals, and amenities to guarantee your visit is smooth and stress free.

How do you get to Tampa Airport?

Tampa is notorious for its lack of rail infrastructure, so the best ways to get to TPA from the city and its surrounding areas is by bus, car hire, or private transfer.

Traveling to Tampa Airport by bus

Route 30: Tampa’s bus network is called the HART (Hillsborough Area Rapid Transit) and Route 30 connects downtown Tampa with Tampa Airport. However, this line can be infrequent and slow, taking roughly 30-40 minutes to downtown Tampa and costing around $2 per ride.

Route 10: The number 10 route runs between downtown and the airport, with weekday service from 5:30 AM through midnight, and weekend service from 7 AM through 11:30 PM.

Route 32: Lastly, the 32 runs between the Netpark Transfer Center and the airport seven days a week, every hour and takes approximately 40 minutes.

All three routes can be picked up near the Rental Car Center. You can get there by taking the airport's SkyConnect train from the Red Baggage Claim.

Traveling to Tampa Airport by car

The best way to get to and from the airport is by personal car. It's only about 5 miles from downtown Tampa, making it one of the closest major airports to a city center in the US. The main access road is State Road 60 (George J. Bean Parkway), which feeds directly into the terminal. I-275 is the main highway connector, with clear signage for the airport from multiple directions.

Blacklane Chauffeur Service: For the smoothest and most comfortable journey, book a Blacklane airport transfer to or from Tampa Airport. Founded in Berlin in 2011, Blacklane offers a door-to-door premium chauffeur service across the Tampa and Orlando area, making your airport transfer effortless and stress-free.

Parking at Tampa Airport

TPA has extensive parking options for travelers, serving both long term and short term stays. Booking your space online in advance will always be cheaper than the drive-up gate rate, and it guarantees you a spot. The maximum length of parking at any of the airport’s parking facilities is 45 days.

Short-Term Garage

The short term garage is located above the terminal and directly connected, so ideal for stays less than 24 hours. It’s the best parking garage for quick drop-offs and pickups. The first hour is free, then it costs $4 for 60–80 minutes, and $2 for each additional 20 minutes you stay, with a daily maximum of $28 for the day.

Long-Term Garage

The long-term parking garage is slightly larger and is adjacent to the airport terminal. It has the same pricing structure as the short-term lot but with a lower daily cap. The daily maximum daily rate for long-term is $22.

Economy Garage

Located 1.2 miles (2 km) away from the main airport terminal, Economy parking is the cheapest on-airport option, costing $18/day. The first 15 minutes are free, and each hour costs $1 thereafter. From the Economy Garage you will need to catch the SkyConnect train to the Main Terminal.

Cell Phone Waiting Lot

If you are simply collecting or dropping off a passenger, the Cell Phone Waiting lot is accessible via George J Bean Parkway. It’s completely free of charge.

Tampa International Airport: Terminal Overview

When you arrive at TPA, you will enter the Main Terminal, which is split over three floors — Arrivals on Level 1, Check-in on Level 2, and Departure gates on Level 3. The main terminal is split between the Red (North) side and the Blue (South) side. Each airline belongs to one side or the other for both check-in and baggage reclaim. The airport has a surprisingly robust public art program, often showcasing rotating exhibits and permanent installations throughout the terminals.

The Main Terminal then connects to Airside A, C, E, F and the forthcoming Airside D. All Airside terminals are connected to the Main Terminal via automated people movers/monorail. If you need to connect between airsides, you will need to ride the shuttle back to the Main Terminal and take a different shuttle to your destination—you won't need to re-clear security.

Airside A primarily serves Southwest Airlines, Airside C serves a mix of airlines including Delta, JetBlue, and United, Airside E serves Delta, Air Canada, and Frontier, and Airside F is where you will find American Airlines, British Airways, Copa, and all other international carriers. As of 2024, the brand-new Airside D is under construction and is due to open in 2028. It will be a state-of-the-art 16-gate terminal for both international and domestic flights.
