As Austria’s biggest and busiest air hub, Vienna International Airport bounced back from the pandemic downturn in 2024. In a new personal best, Vienna hosted over 31 million passengers that year, and this encouraging boost in activity shows no sign of slowing.
Thanks to its central location at the heart of Europe, VIE is a convenient jumping-off point whether you're exploring the Austrian capital, heading to the Alps, or catching a connecting flight. And with its clean design, modern amenities, and efficient layout, the airport makes a great first (or last) impression.
To help you get the most out of your time here, use this handy guide, plus the airport map, to move smoothly through Vienna Airport.

How to get to Vienna Airport
Leaving the car behind in favor of public transport? Vienna has plenty of convenient links to get you between the airport and the city.
The CAT: Taking just 16 minutes between Wien Mitte - Landstrasse station and the airport with no stops in between, the City Airport Train (CAT) wows for ease of access. The price is pretty nifty too - just €14.90 for a single fare. Dedicated, fast, and departing every 30 minutes, this CAT truly gets the cream, setting an impressive standard for airport-focused public transport. Bonus: you can even check in your luggage at Wien Mitte for select airlines.
S7 City Train: Staying outside the center of Vienna? The S7 takes a longer route than the CAT, winding from the outskirts through the city before arriving at the airport. From Wien Mitte - Landstrasse station it takes about 25 minutes, and as a commuter train, it's often busier and more basic. But it beats the CAT on price, just €4.50 for a regular ticket, or €2.10 if you have a Vienna City Card.
Railjet Train: You can also hop on an Austrian national train to get to Vienna Airport. Railjet services depart from Vienna’s central station, Wien Hauptbahnhof, taking just 15 minutes to drop you off. Prices match the S7 train, costing 4 Euro 50 Cents for a regular ticket or just 2 Euro 10 Cents if you have a Vienna City Card. Railjet trains depart every 30 minutes.
Buses: Vienna Airport Lines buses run regularly from all over the city. Hop on a VAL1, VAL2, or VAL3 from Hauptbahnhof, Morzinplatz/Schwedenplatz, or Donauzentrum, respectively. Depending on where you board, you can get to the airport in as little as 20 minutes. A single ticket costs €11, with return fares at €20.
Book a Blacklane chauffeured ride: For a hassle-free experience, Blacklane is the ideal choice to get to or from Vienna Airport. Skip the stress of negotiating taxi fares or dealing with public transport uncertainties, and enjoy a comfortable, reliable chauffeured ride that ensures you arrive on time and relaxed.

Lounges at Vienna Airport
Vienna International Airport has a range of high quality lounges available for passengers. Most can be found in Terminal 3, while the exceptional VIENNA Lounge works its magic in Terminal 1.
Be aware that some of VIE's lounges are available only to Schengen passengers, which are passengers flying between EU countries that have no border controls between them. Non-Schengen lounges are open only to passengers who are bound for non-Schengen airports.
Terminal 1 lounges
VIENNA Lounge
It may come as something of a surprise given Vienna’s midweight status for business passenger numbers, but VIE may host the world’s very best lounge. That’s right, not just in Europe - the VIENNA lounge topped the charts at the inaugural Priority Pass Excellence Awards in 2024, being declared overall global winner.
With its clean, modern design complete with parquet flooring, greenery, and artworks by Austrian artists like Klimt and Schiele, VIENNA’s decor combines the feel of a pristine hotel lobby with the city’s cultural heritage. It’s also a huge and well-lit space, offering 2,500 square meters for up to 450 guests.
The VIENNA Lounge’s food is a high point for many travelers, with an expansive bistro-style buffet giving visitors the chance to sample all manner of delicacies. From local favorites like schnitzel and strudels to international options and a cheese, meat, and salad bar, there’s a staggering array of options to enjoy. Pick up an Austrian beer, a nice glass of wine, soft drinks, or even a Bloody Mary to wash it down with.
Other highlights include private booths with beds and reading lights for anyone needing a little quiet time, a dedicated play area for kids, and a glorious, year-round outdoor terrace where you can enjoy fantastic views of the runways beyond. Shower facilities with Dyson hairdryers, free high-speed Wi-Fi, and business workspaces are also available.
Access:
Priority Pass members can access for free with one guest (depending on membership level).
First class and business class ticket holders with select Star Alliance and Oneworld airlines can access the VIENNA Lounge free of charge (SkyTeam access varies by airline).
A range of credit card holders may also enter the lounge for free or at a reduced rate.
Certain other memberships and tickets, such as Dragon Pass, Lounge Key, and a valid CAT train ticket, will get you reduced entry (CAT ticket holders receive a €10 discount).
Finally, the VIENNA Lounge operates an open-to-all policy when it comes to access, meaning there’s always the option to enjoy it regardless of which airline you’re flying with. The entry price per passenger is €57, which covers a stay of up to three hours with all services included.
Terminal 3 lounges
SKY Lounge
Vienna International Airport is also home to the SKY Lounge in Terminal 3, available to Schengen passengers departing from Gates F.
Seating for around 150 is divided into smaller areas with privacy screens, and there are reclining chairs with footrests for extra comfort. Showers are available, along with a smokers’ booth. Business travelers can make use of separate workspaces with individual desks. Food and drink options include a hot and cold buffet with soups, salads, and snacks, plus a small self-service bar. Coffee and pastries are also on offer in the cozy Vienna Coffee Corner.
Access
First class and business class ticket holders with selected Star Alliance and Oneworld airlines can access the SKY Lounge free of charge (SkyTeam access varies by airline).
A range of credit card holders may also enter the lounge for free or at a reduced rate.
Other memberships and tickets, such as Dragon Pass, Lounge Key, and a valid CAT train ticket, can provide discounted access (CAT ticket holders receive a €10 discount).
Like the VIENNA Lounge, the SKY Lounge is open to all passengers, no matter which airline you’re flying. The entry price is €46 per person for a stay of up to three hours, with all services included.
Austrian Airlines / Star Alliance Lounges
Terminal 3 is also called the Austrian Star Alliance terminal, and the clue really is in the name. No fewer than five lounges run by Austrian Airlines can be found here.
The lounges are thoughtfully separated, with both the Schengen and Non-Schengen areas offering dedicated sections for Austrian Airlines’ HON Circle members. In this lounge-within-a-lounge, guests enjoy special culinary creations, quiet relaxation areas, and excellent views of the VIE apron, alongside all the premium comforts you'd expect.
Meanwhile, the Schengen Lounge on Level 2 includes exclusive spaces for Senator Club and Star Alliance Gold members, as well as business-class flyers. If you're an Austrian high flyer, you basically get a specialist lounge as standard. Senator Club and Gold members can expect a self-serve bar, hot and cold buffet, workstations, and comfortable relaxation zones. Business-class guests enjoy similar amenities, including buffet dining and workstations with printers and charging ports.
As if that wasn’t enough, a separate business-class lounge is also available in Concourse D (Gates D21–D29), catering to travelers departing from that area.
Access
For HON Circle Lounge access, you’ll need a HON Circle Member card and a same-day boarding pass for an Austrian or Star Alliance airline flight.
A first-class ticket with Lufthansa or SWISS also grants access to the HON Circle Lounge.
For the Senator / Star Alliance Gold lounge, you’ll need to present a Senator card or Star Alliance Gold card, along with a same-day boarding pass for an Austrian or Star Alliance flight.
For the business lounges, you’ll need a same-day business-class boarding pass for an Austrian or Star Alliance flight, or an economy-class boarding pass with a Miles & More Frequent Traveller card.
Austrian Airlines passengers of any class with a same-day boarding pass may purchase one-time access to a business lounge for €44, subject to availability.
