Osaka Airport Transfer - Kansai & Itami

Osaka is served by two main airports. Kansai International Airport (KIX) is the primary international hub for Osaka, Kyoto, Kobe, and Nara, built on an artificial island in Osaka Bay. Osaka Itami Airport (ITM), also known as Osaka Itami Airport, is the main domestic airport and the closest airport to Osaka city. If you prefer public transport, there are JR and Nankai express trains into the city, plus airport buses that stop at major stations.

For Kyoto, both airports are realistic options. Kansai is often used by international travellers heading straight to Kyoto, with a journey of roughly 1 hour 30 minutes to most central hotels. Itami is geographically closer and is frequently used for domestic connections, with a typical travel time of around 50–60 minutes to Kyoto by road or a combination of airport bus and rail.

Kobe and Nara can also be reached directly from either airport. Kansai sits across the bay from Kobe, and Itami is close to the northern side of Osaka, so journey times are usually around 1 hour in each case. If you are visiting several cities in the Kansai region, it is worth checking both airports when you book flights to see which best fits your travels.

On the day of your trip, your chauffeur will meet you inside the terminal, after baggage claim, at whichever Osaka airport you are using. For airport pickups there is built-in 1 hour waiting time and flight tracking, so delays at immigration or small changes won’t be a problem for your private driver. You can choose the vehicle size based on your group and luggage. A Business Class car is usually enough for one to three people with typical luggage. Larger groups, families, or travellers with bulky bags often prefer a Business Van / SUV class for more space and easier loading at the curb outside the terminal and at the hotel.

For the return leg, the same approach applies in reverse. It is usually best to work backwards from your departure time at Kansai or Itami, allow enough time for the road journey and check-in, and then book a single pickup from your hotel or apartment in Osaka, Kyoto, Kobe, or Nara to the airport you are flying from.
