Private jet travel is no longer the exclusive domain of billionaires with Gulfstreams on standby. While still far from mainstream, it has become significantly more accessible. According to the latest figures, the United States leads by a wide margin, recording over 1.5 million private jet departures in the first half of the year. That’s more than 14 times the volume of its closest competitor, Canada, which saw just under 102,000 flights. France ranked third globally with 56,294 private jet departures, followed by the United Kingdom with 48,965. Australia (44,448), Germany (43,471), and Mexico (41,694) rounded out the top seven. Other key markets included Brazil, Italy, and Spain, each with between 26,000 and 40,000 departures.

These numbers confirm that while North America still dominates private aviation, demand across Europe and parts of Latin America and Oceania remains robust. In total, more than a dozen countries logged over 15,000 departures in just six months, which is a clear indication of global appetite for this mode of transport.

Among operators, NetJets continues to set the pace, with over 330,000 flight hours in H1 2024. Flexjet held strong in second place with nearly 118,000 hours, marking a 15.7% increase year-over-year. VistaJet, Wheels Up, and FlyExclusive completed the top five, all showing double-digit growth.

The increase in traffic is putting pressure on private jet airports worldwide, as demand grows not only for efficient runways but also for discreet lounges, fast-track services, and premium ground support. The surge is about time, control, and convenience.

The airport features multiple Fixed Base Operators (FBOs), including Jet Aviation and Signature Aviation, offering amenities such as lounges, conference rooms, and on-site customs services. Teterboro is also a major hub for NetJets, highlighting its importance in private aviation.

The airport is home to the New Jersey Aviation Hall of Fame, established in 1972 as the first of its kind in the United States. The museum honors individuals whose contributions have shaped aviation history in the state.

Westchester County Airport (HPN), New York

Located approximately 30 miles from Manhattan, Westchester County Airport serves as a convenient gateway for private aviation travelers heading to New York City and its affluent northern suburbs. Van Nuys Airport ranks among the top private jet airports in the world. It is one of two airports operated by Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), alongside Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Thanks to its location near Hollywood, VNY is a popular choice for entertainment industry professionals. The airport also features LAWA’s FlyAway terminal, offering travelers direct, non-stop bus service to LAX with convenient parking options at Van Nuys.

As Europe’s premier private aviation hub, Paris Le Bourget is located just 7 miles northeast of the city. Its status is further elevated by its proximity to the Paris-Le Bourget Exhibition Center, home to the world-renowned Paris Air Show held every two years.

The airport hosts several FBOs.
